Historic Floor Cloth Workshop

The earliest floor cloths, called oil cloths, trace back to 14th century France, where they were used as wall hangings and table covers. Floor cloths became popular in England as floor coverings and were
considered elegant. They were imported from Europe to America as early as the late 17th century. George Washington listed one in his financial disclosure report in 1796. By the mid 18th century, American floor cloths’ quality compared favorably with those made in Europe. As floor cloths became more affordable they increased in popularity.

February 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteer Erica Blake will teach you how to make floor cloths that you can take home with you. You’ll learn how to apply traditional floor cloth techniques to create your own bookmarks and mouse pads. Pre-registration is required and there is a $10 materials fee. Registration ends on February 8, 2012. The workshop is limited to 10 participants. We will provide light refreshments, and attendees are welcome to bring lunch. Celebrating Salvation Army (Center of Hope)
Salvation Army Center of Hope, A place called "home". Every day school buses stop at the Center of Hope to bring more than 100 children "home." For the sake of these children-more than 1,000 pass through the Center of Hope's doors each year-the shelter seeks to provide daily stability and a permanent way out of homelessness. As Charlotte's only 24/7 year-round emergency shelter, the Center of Hope- a 36,000 square-foot facility with 224 beds-routinely operates at capacity. In 2010 it admitted more than 5,710 people, including five women over the age of 85, and welcomed 27 newborns directly from the hospital. The largest such shelter in the Southeast, the Center of Hope offers a comprehensive program of onsite services, including, the nations only Boys& Girls Club within a homeless shelter.

The Civic & Cultural Arts Center of Pineville invites the public to "Beyond the Curve II: Celebrating Women's Vision," an art exhibit featuring works of regional female artists. The show begins with an opening reception March 2, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Main Gallery of the CCAC at 316 Main Street in Pineville, and continues through March 31, 2012. Show hours will vary according to Artists and Volunteer availability. Admission is free. Wine and Cheese and live music on opening night.
